Teriyaki Chicken Stir Fry

With a simple & sweet homemade sauce, this teriyaki chicken stir fry makes a healthy dinner your whole family will love! Ready in just 25 minutes!

When I think easy weeknight meals, I often think of stir fry. Quickly sauté veggies and protein at high heat. Then, simply top with a sauce for a healthy and colorful meal! You can even use a frozen veggie blend for faster meal prep. Stir fry is also very versatile! You can add almost any veggie. Plus, it works well with chicken, turkey, pork, steak, or even tofu. It's a naturally gluten free dish (be careful with soy sauce.) And, it can easily be adjusted to fit your desired carb intake.

Plus, this teriyaki sauce is simple, sweet, and sticky! You'll want to make again and again!

Stir Fry Tips & Tricks

  • Don't overcrowd the pan! Otherwise the veggies will steam and they won't brown nicely. Cook in batches, if needed.
  • Cook over high heat.
  • Don't forget to add ginger and garlic.
  • Let the meat sit at room temp for a bit before cooking.
  • Cut the veggies into similar size pieces for even cooking.
  • Create a slurry using corn starch and water. Then, whisk in to thicken the sauce.

Homemade Teriyaki Sauce

1 c. of water

1/4 c. coconut aminos (sweeter than soy sauce, gluten free)

2 tsp. brown sugar

1 Tbsp. of  honey

1/2 tsp. ginger

1/4 tsp. garlic

2 Tbsp. corn starch + 1/4 c. water

Optional: 1 Tbsp. pineapple or orange juice

In a small saucepan, heat the water, coconut aminos, brown sugar, honey, ginger, and garlic over medium heat. In a small bowl, whisk together the corn starch and water. Then, whisk the corn starch mixture into the sauce. Cook and stir until sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

Is teriyaki the same as stir fry sauce?

Yes, teriyaki is a Japanese stir fry sauce.

Do I need a wok?

If you don't have a wok, you can use a large skillet. The sloping sides of a wok helps to keep the ingredients from becoming overcooked; however, you can achieve similar results without a wok.

Storage

Store stir fry in the fridge, in an airtight container, for 3-4 days.
