Sheet Pan Steak and Fries

For a classic meat and potatoes dinner made on ONE sheet pan- sheet pan steak and fries will quickly become part of your weekly rotation!

When planning dinner, I often begin with the protein. Then, I think about carbs and veggies. Sometimes a carb-filled veggie. I also like to think about maximum flavor with minimal effort.

Now, I LOVE to cook...but not after working for 8 hours. Also, I'm usually hungry the second I walk in the door. I am the most successful at sticking to and enjoying healthy meals when most of my weekday meals are prepped ahead of time. And if you don't like leftovers- then you're not making the right stuff! If I don't look forward to a leftover, then I didn't like it very much freshly prepared either.

And when I can put a meal on a sheet pan and let the oven do most of the work- that's the best!!! With just 4 ingredients, you can create steak and homemade wedge French fries. Yum-my! And, it's not boring or lacking in flavor. Now, this might not create the most perfect steak; however, mine was incredibly tasty and I enjoyed every bite! Plus, you can easily throw in a second sheet pan for a few extra meals.

Steak with fries is so common in France- they have a name for the dish. Steak frites refers to steak and French fries (not some strange hybrid situation.)

Note: If you're ever traveling in France and unsure about the menu, ask for steak frites. (bien cuit for a little pink.)

Tips for Cooking Steak in the Oven

  • Allow to come to room temp before cooking
  • The best flavor will come from searing in a pan before placing in the oven. This does lead to more dishes.
  • Allow to rest before slicing.

Steak and Wedge Cut Fries on a Sheet Pan

Ingredients in Sheet Pan Steak and Fries

  • Russet Potatoes
  • Steak
  • Olive Oil
  • Chicken and/or Steak Seasoning

Steak and Fries in the Broiler

  • This is the fastest method- high broil.
  • Potatoes take about 10-12 minutes.
  • Steak takes about 5-8 minutes. (1 inch thick steaks were only slightly pink at 7 minutes.)
  • Flip steaks and potatoes halfway through cooking time.
  • Leave the oven door open a few inches while cooking.
  • Put the potatoes on aluminum foil. This will keep them dry from any steak juice. Plus, they will be easier to move if you need to cook longer or remove before the steaks are finished.
  • Difficult to gauge exact cooking times based on thickness of food, distance from the heat, and temp of the broiler.
  • Check temperature of steak for desired doneness.
  • Cook potatoes until fork tender and browned.
