Move over, traditional tacos — there’s a new handheld hero in town, and it's bringing the sizzle of the griddle straight to your taste buds. Smash Burger Tacos are taking over TikTok feeds and dinner tables alike, and for good reason. These creations combine the juicy, crispy-edged goodness of a smash burger with the fun of a taco. The result? A flavor-packed, street-food-style meal that’s ridiculously easy to make and totally addictive!

Here a burger is smashed onto a tortilla and cooked on a hot griddle or skillet. As the beef crisps up, it fuses with the tortilla– creating the perfect, meaty base that’s simply begging for fun toppings! Then, fold like a taco and enjoy!

So the next time you’re craving burgers and tacos, don’t choose. Make smash burger tacos instead. Your taste buds will thank you.

Why They’re a Game-Changer

  • Quick & Easy: No need to toast tortillas separately or grill burger patties. This one-pan wonder handles both at once.
  • Crispy Edges: Smashing the beef creates caramelized, crispy edges — the signature smash burger touch.
  • Customizable: Go classic with lettuce, pickles, and cheese, or take it fusion with kimchi, sriracha mayo, or avocado crema.

Pro Tip: While super fun and delicious, they can take awhile to make if using a skillet. I recommend a griddle to speed up the process, especially if you're cooking for more than 2 people! Also, do not try to use corn tortillas. They will fall apart during the cooking process. Almond flour or regular flour tortillas work best.

How to Make Smash Burger Tacos

Here’s a basic recipe to get you started:

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • Almond flour tortillas
  • Salt & pepper
  • Slices of cheese
  • Your favorite toppings: shredded lettuce, tomatoes, diced onions, pickles, burger sauce, ketchup, etc.

How to Make Smash Burger Tacos:

  1. Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  2. Place a ball of ground beef (about 2–3 oz) on top of a tortilla. Press it down with clean hands or a spatula until it’s thin and evenly spread close to the edge.
  3. Carefully place beef-side-down onto the hot pan. Let it cook undisturbed for 3–4 minutes until you get crispy, browned edges.
  4. Flip the taco, beef side up, and immediately add a slice of cheese. Let the cheese melt as the tortilla toasts for another 2-3 minutes.
  5. Top it off with your favorite fixings and fold like a taco.

What is a smash burger?

A smash burger is when the beef has been smashed onto the griddle or skillet during cooking. This creates a more flavorful burger with thinner edges, and a crispier, more caramelized crust. Often only 2-3 oz. of beef is used per patty, so they are often stacked and served as doubles or triples.
