Easy Gluten Free Soft Pretzels

With no yeast or rising time required, these easy gluten free soft pretzels make a soft and chewy treat, ready in about 35 minutes!

Years ago, I created a gluten free soft pretzel recipe. I started by looking at a bunch of recipes and tried to combine different parts. The result was golden, chewy, and delicious- but there was a lot of ingredients, steps, and time required!

And then I came across this super simple, 4-ingredient gluten free dough recipe. (I believe it originated from Skinny Taste.) Y'all- it is amazing!

It makes a quick and easy, soft dough. Then, you can turn the dough into traditionally shaped soft pretzels or even mini soft pretzel bites. Delicious on their own, they are also great with a sweet or savory dip.

Soft, chewy, buttery, salty, and unbelievably delicious! These gluten free soft pretzels are truly the perfect snack!

How to Make Easy Gluten Free Soft Pretzel Dough

1 c. gluten free flour blend

2 tsp. baking powder

3/4 tsp. salt

1 c. Greek yogurt

6 c. water

2 Tbsp. baking soda

1 Tbsp. butter, melted

Pretzel salt

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Then, beat in the Greek yogurt. Next, carefully knead, while adding up to 1/4 cup of more flour, if needed.
  2. Dough can be refrigerated and baked at a later time.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
  4. Separate dough into even-sized pieces. You can create small soft pretzels or mini soft pretzel bites. Roll and shape dough as desired.
  5. Heat a large pot, filled halfway with water, to a boil. Stir in the baking soda. Carefully place the pretzels in the water. Allow pretzels to boil for 1-2 minutes (one minute for small bites.) Leaving them in for too long could result in a metallic taste. Remove with a slotted spoon.
  6. Place the pretzels on a lined baking sheet. Brush with the melted butter. Then, sprinkle with the pretzel salt. Finally, bake for 18-20 minutes, until golden brown. If desired, brush with any remaining butter.

Baking Soda Bath

I think this step is truly necessary to achieve the best pretzel flavor and texture! It does require a bit more time- maybe 5 minutes- but, totally worth it! This will help to create a more golden and chewy texture on the outside, while remaining soft and fluffy on the inside! The way a soft pretzel should be! (See Step 5 above.)

Storage & Reheating

Store pretzels in an airtight container in the fridge. They will become a bit hard. Simply reheat in the microwave for 10-15 seconds when ready to enjoy.
