Apple Crostata

For a simple dessert perfect for fall, this apple crostata is a winner! Baked cinnamon apples, with a crumb topping, all atop a free form pie...it's autumn on a plate.

Ingredients

  • 1 refrigerated pie crust
  • 6 - 8 medium apples, peeled & sliced
  • 3 Tbsp. orange juice
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. corn starch

Crumb Topping

  • 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/8 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp. butter, cold & cubed

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, mix the apples, orange juice, cinnamon, and corn starch. Carefully, unroll pie crust on sheet pan. Next, pour the apple filling in the center. Leave about a 2 inch border.
  3. Then, sprinkle the crumb topping over the apples. Fold the crust over the top of the apples. If desired, brush crust with melted butter. Then, bake for 28-30 minutes, until apples are fork tender. Top with whipped cream, caramel, and/or vanilla ice cream.
